Wellbeing
At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.
School Psychologist
Kirrawee Public School has a dedicated school psychologist, who provides specialised psychological support for student wellbeing, including assessment, counselling, and intervention services for learning and mental health issues. They work with students, families, teachers and other professionals to foster safe, healthy learning environments and improve cognitive, emotional, and social development outcomes.
Student Wellbeing Officer
Our Student Wellbeing Officer (SWO) provides direct support to students and collaborates with the school community to enhance social, emotional, and learning outcomes. Their role involves delivering targeted wellbeing initiatives, facilitating group work, connecting students and families with external support agencies and contributing to whole-of-school wellbeing programs like anti-bullying and positive relationships.
HOPE Mentors
Kids Hope Australia connects trained volunteer mentors with primary school children who need extra social and emotional support. Our Hope mentors assist in fostering resilience and confidence through a weekly one-on-one mentoring relationship, empowering children to thrive in their social and personal lives.
PAX
The PAX philosophy is an evidence-based preventative program that uses daily strategies to teach children self-regulation, self-control, and prosocial behaviour in a fun, game-like format. Teachers embed these strategies into daily activities to create a peaceful and productive learning environment, ultimately improving children's focus, attention, academic performance, and peer relationships while reducing disruptive behaviour.
Life Skills GO
Life Skills GO is an online, interactive, and blended learning platform for Australian and New Zealand primary schools (Years K-6) that develops and measures social and emotional learning (SEL) skills for students and teachers. It provides a data collection tool to monitor student wellbeing, real-time dashboards for educators to make informed decisions, and a comprehensive library of evidence-based, curriculum-aligned resources like lessons, videos, and activities. The platform aims to improve school wellbeing and academic results by building resilience, self-awareness, and positive relationships in students.
Open Parachute
Open Parachute is an evidence-based online mental health and social-emotional learning (SEL) program for students from Kindergarten to Year 12, as well as parents and educators. It teaches students practical resilience and well-being skills through lessons featuring real Australian youth, a trauma-informed approach, and clinical, research-based content. The program aims to foster self-awareness, boost connection, and build support systems, covering topics like friendships, anxiety, communication, and coping with challenges.
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL)
Kirrawee Public School operates under the Positive Behaviour for Learning framework with three core values;
- Be Respectful
- Be Safe
- Be Engaged
All classrooms use the following guidelines to promote safe and productive learning environments.
Our school student welfare policy is supported by our PBL Practices. Kirrawee Public School has expectations for our students to be Respectful, Safe and Engaged. These are our systems to recognise and reinforce student achievement. Our school also has a School Behaviour Support Management Plan (SBSMP) which underpins all wellbeing practices within the school as outlined by the NSW Department of Education.
All school staff use a system of merit that allows them to identify and reward students who are seen to be setting fine examples to others and the school community. Children are rewarded consistently for appropriate behaviour, effort, achievement and service in a variety of school contexts.
Children progress through various levels:
Award Levels
Kirrawee Kudos: PBL fast and frequent tokens
All staff are able to distribute fast and frequent PBL tokens ‘Kirrawee Kudos’ for any positive behaviour. There is no allocation limit for PBL tokens. Kirrawee Kudos are either entered into a collection box to go into the draw for a canteen voucher, or they are given as house points for sporting house teams.
Safe, Respectful & Engaged Assembly Awards
Three awards are given weekly at assemblies to each class. These are given for either being safe, respectful or engaged. Three assembly awards entitle the student to a ‘Student of the Week’ award. Three ‘Student of the Week’ awards entitle the student to a ‘Principal’s Award
